Sugaray Rayford (USA)

“Sugaray on sügava ja jumaliku hingestatusega esmaklassiline bluusiartist.”

— Living Blues Magazine

Antud bändi praegune koosseis koosneb rahvusvaheliselt tuuritavatest tippmuusikutest: Gino Matteo kitarril, Drake “Munkihaid” Shining klahvpillidel, Alan Markel basskitarril, Lavell Jones trummidel ja Allan Walker saksofonil.

Sugaray Rayford reisib maailmas ringi ka teistes koosseisudes lauldes. Ta teeb kaasa bändides Igor Prado Band, “Big Pete” van der Pluijm, Sax Gordon jt. Ta on laulnud sisse vokaalpartiisid erinevates projektides, sealhulgas Judge Joe Brown’i teemalugu, City Lights filmitreiler ning mõned lood seriaalis Person of Interest.

2012. aasta maikuus tegi ta oma lavadebüüdi mängides peaosa Tony auhinnaga pärjatud lavastuses “Ain’t Nuthin’ But The Blues”, mis etendus Portland Center Stage’il. Ta liitus New York Broadway trupiga, mängides rolli, mida varem on kehastanud Ron Taylor. Etendusi mängiti 6 nädalat, igat neist saatsid püsti seisva publiku ovatsioonid. Sugaray Rayford on tänaseks välja andnud neli albumit.

Tema vanakooli vokaalstiilis tunneb ära suurmehed Muddy Waters’i, Otis Redding’u ja Teddy Pendergrass’i. Sugaray Rayford’i tantsusammud on liikuvad, graatsilised ja energilised, mistõttu meenutavad need meile legendaarset James Brown’i.

“Sugaray is a first-rate blues artist with a deep-running, church honed soulfulness.”

— Living Blues Magazine

Texas born electric blues singer and songwriter Caron “Sugaray” Rayford began his musical career at the age of 7 with singing and playing drums in church. Growing up in gospel and soul, the influences can be heard and felt in his music.

Sugaray has fronted his own band, the Sugaray Rayford Band, since 2010. This group is currently made up of world-class musicians who tour extensively internationally: Gino Matteo on guitar, Drake “Munkihaid” Shining on keyboards, Alan Markel on bass, Lavell Jones on drums, and Allan Walker on sax. His solo career flourished after moving to LA several years ago.

Sugaray also travels the world singing with other bands like Igor Prado Band, “Big Pete” van der Pluijm, Sax Gordon and several others. He has done studio vocals on several projects, including the theme for Judge Joe Brown, the movie trailer City Lights, a couple of songs on Person of Interest and many more.

In May, 2012 he made his stage debut starring in the Tony award winning play “Ain’t Nuthin’ But The Blues” at the Portland Center Stage. He joined members of the New York Broadway cast playing the part previously played by the late Ron Taylor. It had a 6-week run, every show ending with standing ovations. Sugaray Rayford has released four albums to date and in 2017 was nominated for 4 blues music awards.

When Sugaray belts out a song, you not only hear it, you feel it. The excitement in the room is noticable when he takes the stage. He is a superb vocalist and entertainer. His dynamic voice is large just like the man. Echoes of Muddy Waters, Otis Redding and Teddy Pendergrass can be heard in his old school vocal style. His fluid dance steps full of grace and energy remind us of the legendary James Brown.
