Johnny B Beast (LAT)

Johnny B Beast, kodanikunimega Janis Zvers, on Läti akustilise bluusi kitarrist.

Johnny B Beast aka Janis Zvers is a Latvian acoustic blues guitarist. He started his solo career in 2012 and has played guitar in several local-famous metal and hardcore bands, toured in Europe and even Mexico already since high school. Slide-blues has been his passion since childhood.

Johnny plays fingerstyle on open tuning guitar, using guitar also as an percussion instrument. He plays strings with slide, sometimes even with a hip flask or a shot glass. His music is filled with groovy rhymes, melodic, sometimes naive licks and a southern blues vibe. One of the highlights of his performance is definitely his hand-made “chess-board-guitar”. His biggest influences in music are Blind Willie Johnson, Bob Brozman, Brother Dedge, Seasick Steve and Daniel Bachman, with his primitive guitar vibes.

Johnny’s festival debut was in an open-air festival Laba Daba 2014, which is one of Latvia’s most famous events with 15 000 people in the audience. After that he has given many successful concerts in Suwalki Blues, Torun Blues Meeting in Poland, Emajõe Bluus in Tartu, Estonia, some club gigs in Italy, as well in Latvia’s only blues festival – Sigulda Castle Blues Fest. He also represented Latvia in the annual European Blues Challenge in 2016.

3 years ago he released his first solo album “Wild Boars and Trains”, which gained attention in Baltic blues scene and received some encouraging reviews.

As a journalist, Johnny is always looking for new adventures and ways to transform those experiences into his creation.
